FIREFIGHTERS are dealing with a fire in an industrial unit in Wythenshawe which has affected the electricity supply to around 500 properties in the area.
Crew were called to an industrial unit on Southmoor Road at 11.46am today and quickly requested six fire engines to tackle the blaze which was in a tunnel carrying high voltage cables.
Firefighters in breathing apparatus are working to tackle the fire and are working with Electricity North West to resolve the incident and restore power to the affected properties as quickly as possible.
Group Manager Ben Levy, said: “We are working with Electricity North West to resolve this incident as quickly as we can.
“It’s cold and wet today and we’re mindful that some residents and businesses in the M23 area of Wythenshawe may be suffering the effects of this fire.
“Please wrap up warm and be careful if you’re using candles or other forms of heating – never leave anything flammable near to a source of heat or ignition.
“Our crew are working really hard in difficult conditions to resolve this incident as quickly as possible.”
