Incident Date: 01 June 2014
FIRE crews from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) have been fighting a fire involving a row of shops in Westhoughton throughout the night.
Firefighters were called to the incident on Wigan Road shortly before 10pm on Sunday, June 1, 2014.
Around 20 firefighters were sent to the address and they used a hydraulic platform and water jets to bring the blaze under control.
When crews arrived they found the roof of the properties well alight and they worked hard to stop the fire from spreading.
The incident was scaled down in the early hours and crews left the scene at around 9am on Monday, June 2, 2014.
Watch Manager David Campbell, from Eccles Fire Station, said: "This morning we've been helping some of the shop owners recover items and stock, and we've been assisting them with business continuity.
"The fire has affected about six businesses - some are more affected then others - but luckily the buildings were unoccupied when the fire started on Sunday night.
"We worked hard to get the surrounding roads re-opened as soon as possible with it being a Monday morning."
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
