Between 5.30pm on Friday, January 5 and 8.30am on Monday, January 8, we received 325 calls and attended 188 incidents including a house fire in Bolton.
Sunday, January 7
Building fire - Wigan
AT 10.32am on Sunday, January 7, three fire engines from Wigan and Hindley were called to a fire in a church in Water Street, Wigan.
On arrival firefighters found one of the lights in the ceiling was faulty and had caused a small fire. To extinguish it they used two extension ladders and a dry powder extinguisher.
Firefighters remained at the incident for one hour and 50 minutes.
Garage fire – Hyde
AT 13.33pm on Sunday, January 7, two fire engines from Ashton Under Lyne and Gorton were called a garage fire in Waverley Road, Hyde.
On arrival firefighters found a detached garage well alight, requiring the use of two hose reels to bring it under control. Upon further inspection, once the fire was safely out, firefighters found the fire had been caused by paint fumes being ignited by a nearby log burner.
Firefighters remained at the incident for 50 minutes.
Kitchen fire – Ashton Under Lyne
AT 18.50pm on Sunday, January 7, three fire engines from Stalybridge, Ashton and Oldham were called to a kitchen fire in School Lane, Ashton Under Lyne.
The fire had begun in the kitchen of the building, quickly spreading to roof space above, requiring firefighters to use two hose reels and two breathing apparatus to put it out.
Once the fire was safely out crews used a ventilation fan to clear the remaining smoke.
Firefighters were on the scene for one hour.
House fire – Bolton
AT 20.51 pm on Sunday, January 7, three fire engines from Farnworth and Bolton Central were called to a house fire in Catherines Drive, Bolton.
The fire had begun due to an unattended candle on top of a fire, quickly igniting and starting a fire in the living room of the property. Luckily the occupant had working smoke detectors, which alerted them to the danger and allowed them to exit the house and call the fire service.
When firefighters arrived they used two breathing apparatus and a hose reels to extinguish the fire and a ventilation fan to clear the remaining smoke.
Firefighters remained at the incident for one hour.
