ONE fire engine remains at the scene of an industrial unit fire in Broughton Lane, Salford, that broke out in the early hours of Christmas morning.
At the height of the blaze, 11 fire engines along with a number of specialist appliances were in attendance with crew wearing breathing apparatus tackling the fire with jets and an ultra-high pressure cutting lance.
The fire originated in a unit that was storing a large quantity of bedding and spread to neighbouring units. Firefighters managed to bring the incident under control by around 8am on December 25, and it was scaled back to four appliances with firefighters remaining on scene throughout Christmas day and night to monitor the incident and check for further pockets of fire.
An investigation is currently underway to establish the cause of the fire.
Industrial unit fire – Salford
AT 1.12am on Monday, December 25, 2017, eight fire engines and other specialist appliances from across Greater Manchester were mobilised to a fire involving a multi-occupancy industrial unit in Broughton Lane, Salford.
On arrival, the unit measuring 80 metres by 30 metres was well alight and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are tackling the fire with jets and an ultra-high pressure cutting lance with crew using a hydraulic platform to put water on to the fire from height.
A large amount of smoke has discharged above the local area and we would remind people to keep their doors and windows closed.
Broughton Lane is also closed to allow our crews to work so please avoid the area.
