GMFRS received 200 emergency calls over a 24-hour period from 8.30am on Saturday, September 10 through to 8.30am this morning. Here is a summary of some of the incidents we attended:
Road traffic collision Manchester city centre: We were called at 1.15pm on Saturday, September 10, to road traffic collision at the junction of Longworth Street and St John’s Street in Manchester city centre. Firefighters from Moss Side and Salford, along with the technical response unit from Ashton-under-Lyne, attended and cut one person from a vehicle using hydraulic cutting tools, a saw and stabilisation equipment. Crew spent one hour at the incident.
Car fire Wigan: At 1.23pm we were called to Gorman Walk, Wigan, where a car fire had caused heat damage to a domestic garage. Firefighters from Wigan used one hose reel, one breathing kit and breaking in gear to put the fire out and make the scene safe. One casualty was treated for burns by paramedics. Crew were at the scene for 35 minutes.
Chip pan fire Prestwich: We were called at 3.21pm to a fire involving a chip pan at Sherbourne Court, Prestwich. Firefighters from Whitefield, Broughton and Agecroft used one hose reel and two breathing kits in putting the fire out. Crew were there for one hour and 35 minutes.
Garage fire Rochdale: At 4.05 pm we were called to a fire in a domestic garage on Grasmere Street, Rochdale. The fire involved rubbish in the garage and firefighters from Rochdale used one hose reel and two breathing kits in putting it out. They were at the scene for 20 minutes.
House fire Hale: We were called at 5.32pm to a fire in the first floor bedroom of a detached house on Melrose Crescent, Hale. Firefighters from Altrincham, Wythenshawe and Wilmslow attended and they used four breathing kits, two hose reels, a covering jet and a ventilation fan in putting the fire out and clearing smoke. They were at the scene for an hour and 20 minutes.
House fire Failsworth: At 9.34pm we were called to a house fire on Burgess Drive, Failsworth. The fire involved the ground and first floors of the property and firefighters used six breathing kits, three hose reels, a ventilation fan and a thermal imaging camera to bring it under control. Five fire engines from Hollins, Oldham, Chadderton and Manchester Central attended and were there for two hours.
Chip pan fire Wigan: We were called at 12.42am on Sunday, September 11, to a chip pan fire on a gas cooker on Moss Lane, Platt Bridge, Wigan. Three fire engines from Wigan and Hindley attended and firefighters used one hose reel, two breathing kits and a ventilation fan to bring the fire under control. Crew were at the scene for 20 minutes.
Outbuilding fire Failsworth: At 12.46am we were called to a fire at an outbuilding on Field Street, Failsworth. Four fire engines from Hollins, Philips Park, Chadderton and Manchester Central attended and firefighters used one hose reel, two breathing kits and a ventilation unit to bring the fire under control. They were at the scene for one hour and 45 minutes.
