Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service attended 48 incidents between 8am and 5.30pm, Monday 26 February. Read about a river rescue and a kitchen fire below.

River rescue, Eccles

At 10.43am two crews from Sale and Cheadle, supported by special appliances from Eccles and Ashton-under-Lyne, attended Redclyffe Road, Eccles, responded to reports of a man in water off Barton Bridge.

GMFRS firefighters used throw lines, a stretcher and a trauma kit to rescue the individual, who was conscious and breathing and conveyed to hospital by ambulance.

The fire service were at the site for roughly 45 minutes.

Kitchen fire, Whitefield

At 4.14pm three fire engines from Whitefield, Blackley and Broughton were called to reports of a fire in the kitchen of a first-storey flat on Welcomb Walk, Whitefield.

On arrival crews used one hose, two breathing apparatus and a ventilation fan to extinguish flames emitting from an electrical cooking appliance.

GMFRS were at the scene for just under half an hour.
