BETWEEN 8.30am and 5pm on Friday, December 8, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service was called to 29 incidents.

Store room fire – Manchester

AT 1.10pm on Friday, December 8, three crews from Moss Side, Salford and Gorton were called to a fire at a college on Chichester Road, Manchester.

On arrival firefighters found the fire involving a water heater in a store room on the ground floor and used two breathing apparatus, one hose reel, dry powder and a specialist ventilation fan to extinguish it and clear smoke.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.

Firefighters were on the scene for approximately 40 minutes.

 

Kitchen fire – Stockport

AT 1.29pm on Friday, December 8, three crews from Offerton, Stockport and Marple were called to a fire on Wessenden Bank, East Offerton.

On arrival firefighters found a fire in the kitchen of a mid-terraced property and used two breathing apparatus, one hose reel and a specialist ventilation fan to extinguish it and clear smoke from the house.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.

Crews would like to remind people to never leave anything flammable near to an oven when cooking.

Firefighters were on the scene for approximately 40 minutes.

Cooking safety advice if you find a fire:

  • Don't panic and don't take risks
  • Never throw water or use a water fire extinguisher on a hot fat fire
  • If it's safe to do so - turn off the heat, but never lean over the pan to reach the controls
  • Leave the kitchen, close the door behind you, tell everyone else in the home to get out and don't go back inside for any reason
  • Call 999 

 

House fire – Bolton

THREE crews from Bolton, Bolton North and Farnworth were called to a fire at a mid-terraced house on Turton Road, Bolton, at 2.55pm on Friday, December 8.

On arrival firefighters found a fire on the first floor and used two hose reels, four breathing apparatus, specialist tools, lighting and a specialist ventilation fan to extinguish it.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.

Firefighters were on the scene for an hour and 15 minutes.
